25 May 22 - PIPA Press release - 25.05.2022 - Securing inflatables on hard standing

Dear inflatable operator
RE: SECURING INFLATABLES ON HARD STANDING OUTDOORS GUIDANCE
Please find attached, more clarification from the technical team at the PIPA leadership group with regards to securing inflatables on hardstanding, ahead of the Jubilee as requested by the industry.
Whilst BS EN 14960 - 2019 shows the requirements of securing inflatables, Inflatables are often requested for locations where anchorage by BS/EN 14960 - 2019 approved peg type is not possible.
In these circumstances, it is the duty of the controller to ensure that the inflatable is suitably and safely secured in line with BS/EN14960 requirements and will provide a similar level of anchorage while not creating new hazards or increasing risks from known hazards.
Until now, guidance for operators and end-users has been limited with little supporting documentation confirming what is and isn’t permitted and no protection for the operators.
The attached PIPA information sheet 4, has been published to clarify any anomalies and discrepancies and ensure all operators are operating along the same lines and includes more up to date methods of anchorage such as ballast and anchor bolts.
The PIPA PLG would be grateful if you could circulate the document to your clients and or perhaps on social media to help spread the word and educate the general public on safety issues and professional setups of inflatables.
We feel this is especially important ahead of the queen’s jubilee weekend, where traditionally we would expect to see a number of street parties being held. These events tend to request inflatables to be set up in inappropriate locations, it’s vital to raise the standards of safety in our industry that we communicate this information as widely as possible.
