05 July 23 - Title: "Unlocking Safety: A Comprehensive Guide to the PIPA Scheme for Inflatable Play Equipment"

INTRODUCTION:

Following on from our recent PIPA registration, we just wanted to take the time to explain what pipa is, how it works and what the benefits are.

In the vibrant world of inflatable play, safety is paramount. As a responsible operator or owner, ensuring that your inflatable equipment adheres to the highest safety standards is not just a legal requirement but a commitment to the well-being of those who use it. Enter the PIPA scheme – a robust inspection system designed to elevate safety practices within the inflatable play industry.

What is PIPA?

Established by the inflatable play industry, the PIPA (Performance Textiles Association) scheme is a meticulous inspection system focused on upholding recognized safety standards for inflatable play equipment. As of January 1, 2019, PIPA operates as an independent entity known formally as The PIPA Testing Scheme Ltd, governed by the PIPA Leadership Group (PLG).

Key Features of PIPA:

1. Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Endorsement: PIPA enjoys the support of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), a vital endorsement that underscores its credibility and commitment to safety. The HSE was actively involved in the scheme's development, ensuring that it aligns with the highest safety benchmarks.

2. Tagging and Inspection: PIPA focuses on tagging and inspecting inflatable play equipment used for bouncing or sliding. It does not currently cover inflatable games or pool inflatables. A PIPA tag signifies that the equipment is designed to recognized safety standards (EN 14960), inspected by nationally qualified inspectors, and approved for commercial use.

3. Scope of PIPA: Inflatable play equipment within the scope of the PIPA scheme must undergo tagging and entry into the database. This includes a broad range of inflatables commonly used in commercial settings.

Benefits of PIPA:

1. Improved Safety for Users: PIPA's stringent standards contribute to enhanced safety for individuals engaging with inflatable play equipment. This ensures that users can enjoy these activities with confidence.

2. HSE Recognized Best Practice: The scheme follows best practices recognized by the Health and Safety Executive, further solidifying its status as a benchmark for safety within the industry.

3. Quality Assurance: PIPA provides a robust framework for quality assurance, emphasizing the importance of manufacturing and maintaining inflatables to the highest standards.

4. Certified Initial and Annual Inspections: Through PIPA, inflatable play equipment undergoes certified initial inspections before use, followed by annual inspections to ensure ongoing compliance with safety standards.

PIPA Testing and Training Service:

The Inflatable Testing and Training Service, a registered PIPA Inspection Body, plays a crucial role in implementing the PIPA scheme. Using equipment with a current Inspection Report from this service guarantees that the equipment has been inspected and passed the most rigorous safety standards.

Conclusion:

In the dynamic realm of inflatable play, the PIPA scheme stands as a beacon of safety, offering operators and owners a comprehensive framework to ensure the well-being of their patrons. Embracing PIPA is not just a legal obligation but a commitment to delivering a secure and enjoyable experience for everyone engaging with inflatable play equipment.

Remember, safety is not just a standard; it's a promise upheld by the PIPA scheme.
